SUSTAINABLE BEEKEEPING

At Sweet Meadow Hives, everybody agrees that honey bees are a vital part of our ecosystem, and we should do everything we can to protect them. Did you know honey bees are on the decline due to overuse of pesticides, disruption of natural habitats, monoculture farming practices and of course deadly diseases. Bring managed beehives to your location helps to mitigate many of these factors.

What better way to help honey bees than bringing them to your backyard or office building. We help to provide a safe habitat for the honey bees and ensure they are healthy. Doing so requires minimal resources while creating limitless benefits. Our program is perfect addition to your corporate or educational sustainability initiative.

BENEFITS OF KEEPING BEES

From beehives to honeycombs, we are enchanted by the world of honey bees.

Pollination

Did you know that 8 out of every 10 bites of food we take is only possible due to the pollination of bees? As bees move from flower to flower collecting pollen and nectar, some of that pollen will fall off and pollinate other flowers. The result…over 100 of your favorite fruits and vegetables are produced! Wouldn’t you like to help that cause?

Habitat

Bees are declining at an alarming rate. Part of that is due to the destruction of nature habitat. Forests are being bulldozed to build houses and commercial space, which is often needed, but where do the residence of those forests go? Bees nest is protected places such as hallowed out trees. Tough to find those in a perfectly manicured neighborhood right?

Food

Bees are also suffering from a lack of nutritious food due to mono culture farming practices. Look, we know farming is a business and it just makes more sense to plow a huge field and plant all of the same types of crops there. Makes perfect sense for the farmer, but really a great situation for the bees. Bees need a diverse diet of pollen and nectar from different flowers. Not to mention, crops tend to only flow once a growing cycle. So what happens when the 6 square miles of apple tree finish blooming? Where do the bees find their next meal? Often your backyard or office gardens have more nutritious food for the bees then you even realize.

Giving back to Nature
We take so much from nature. We rob nature of her resources, her trees, her wild life. It’s time to give something back and help one of the most vital creatures…The Honey Bee.

HONEY BEES ARE SAFE

Many people worry about getting stung from honey bees. The truth is, honey bees generally do not sting humans. Bees have a job to do, and that job is collecting nectar and pollen from flowers. Plus, once a honey bees stings, they die. So they tend to use this as only a last resort.

Our service provides the most docile breed of honey bees to your location. We’ll then visit your hives regularly to make sure your bees are happy and healthy.
